PAWQARA — Mujeres Fuertes y Resilientes, strong and resilient women — started in 2022 when a handful of families in the Chirinos district of Cajamarca got tired of watching their carefully separated, high-scoring lots disappear into anonymous regional blends. Led by Lily Heredia and Neptaly Santos, they built something different: a co-op run by women, for the whole community, with its own cupping lab so producers could verify quality at the moment of delivery instead of taking someone else's word for it. Edit Kayla Narvais Rojas is a recent member. This year she produced five 69-kilo sacks — a true nano lot — and it is the first time her coffee has crossed into North America under her own name. Washed Caturra, grown between 1,700 and 1,800 meters in ancient alluvial soil. It drinks like dried fruit and demerara: plums, figs, and a deep brown sugar sweetness that lingers.We bought all 5 bags she produced.
