Handmade silver and sapphire, moon and star ring

52 Ring Collection – Ring 45 Silver, Antique Sapphire & Moon Ring A little piece of moonlight, made from some rather special stones. Ring 45 is a delicate silver ring inspired by a client and includes one of my favourite combinations – moons, stars and deep blue sapphires. At the centre is a silver crescent moon, with an antique sapphire tucked neatly inside its curve. On either side I’ve added a tiny silver star, followed by another of the same antique sapphires and a small piece of silver granulation to finish the design. There are three sapphires in this ring, and they have a story of their own. I bought a parcel of 75 of these sapphires back in the 1990s. They had been cut in the late 1930s but never used, and had subsequently been passed down a generation, still sitting in their original packet. I bought them and, for quite a long time, did what jewellers sometimes do with things they particularly like… I put them somewhere safe and hoarded them. The 52 Ring Collection has finally given me a good reason to stop keeping them in the cupboard. A good number of those little blue stones have now found their way into their own individual pieces of jewellery, and this ring uses three of them. I love the idea that these sapphires, cut almost 90 years ago and left unused for so long, are finally getting to do what they were made for. This ring is a reflection of my own style – delicate, slightly celestial and full of small details.
