The Saturday before Christmas at Everton Park Bowls Club. Lotti Rem on the mic, a stack of 70s and 80s floor fillers, a sprinkle of carols, and a violet lavender field glowing under a summer sunset on your easel. At its core this is a 70s and 80s singalong: glam stompers, Aussie pub rock, synth pop and the power ballads you swore you had outgrown. Somewhere between the hits, a handful of carols sneak into the set, and suddenly a whole bowls club is belting out the festive favourites, brush in one fist and a glass in the other. Lotti Rem sings live from first chorus to final flourish, and your table becomes her very loud, very willing backing band. Your host talks you through every layer on the mic, so nobody gets left behind, and the breaks while the paint dries are made for top ups, photos and one more round of the chorus. Six sleeps out from Christmas, it suits the office that still has not booked a break-up, the book club ready to swap the book for a brush, and the family who see each other every December and want something better than another long lunch. Tonight's Artwork Lavender Fields A country road trip in one canvas. The sky melts from honey and apricot near the horizon into rose and lilac up top, with a low sun resting on a band of misty blue hills. A stand of gum trees sits in silhouette on the left edge, and the foreground is all lavender, long violet rows sweeping toward you, flecked with pink, peach and buttery yellow where the last light catches them. The flowers are just short, confident dabs of colour, which makes it kind to first-timers and very satisfying to hang. Your canvas, brushes and palette are already waiting. 2 Lotti counts in the first track, your host calls the first layer, and the sky starts to warm up. 3 Drying breaks for refills, happy snaps and the odd carol sing-off between tables. 4 Final flecks of colour in the field, a big group photo, then off you go with a finished canvas and a slightly hoarse festive glow. Lavender Fields: violet rows of lavender, a stand of gum trees and a warm sunset sky. Fancy a pinker sunset or some festive red and green in the flowers? Ask your host on the night and they will help you change the colours, free of charge. Will I be made to sing? Never. That said, hardly anyone stays quiet once the carols start. When does it finish? The 6pm start runs up to 3 hours, so expect to wrap by 9pm. I cannot paint to save myself. Is that a problem? Not at all. The sky is a few wide blends and the flowers are quick little dabs, so beginners do brilliantly with this one. Does it work as a work Christmas party? It is made for it. Book the team together, or have everyone add the same company name in their order notes so you share a table. Got a birthday in the group as well? Let us know and they will get a shout out. Is it okay to come on my own? Absolutely. Plenty of people book a single seat, and we will pop you next to a friendly bunch. We are all buying our own tickets. Will we be seated together? Yes.
