Field day
Field day – WPA recreation project, Dist. No. 2 is an American WPA poster from Illinois, designed by Beard in 1939 for the Federal Art Project within the Works Progress Administration. The poster advertises a sports day and uses the direct, easily legible visual communication that became a hallmark of many public posters of the period. In the foreground stands a woman with a tennis racket, while dark silhouettes in the background suggest additional sports and activities. The vertical composition is structured with clear planes, figures in motion, and large lettering that gives the motif its decisive rhythm. The combination of sport, graphic simplification, and the poster language of the 1930s makes the image a striking presence on the wall, especially where a motif with energy and historic character is desired.Artist: Beard | Created: 1939.Frame not included. Please note that the images are cropped slightly differently depending on the size you choose.
