Chair: Kong

The Kong Armchair by Emeco in Hand Polished Aluminum Design Inspiration: Designed by Philippe Starck in 2002, the Kong Armchair was originally conceived for the glass-roofed Kong restaurant in Paris. It pairs structural utility with a dramatic, mirror-like finish. That Parisian heritage and the cool shimmer of polished aluminum make it a natural fit for our French Mid-Century collections: Les Alizés, Fountaine Bleu, Baltic Sea, and Agave. Its silver tone echoes the soft blues, sea greens, and silvery neutrals of these palettes, and it brings a sculptural, gleaming presence to dining rooms, kitchens, libraries, and entertaining spaces. It also makes a striking contrast with warm woods, natural textiles, and traditional furnishings. Craftsmanship: Each Kong is made by master craftsmen in Hanover, Pennsylvania, and hand-welded from 24 individual pieces of aluminum. The Hand Polished finish takes an additional eight hours of manual work to reach its mirror-like shine, in contrast to Emeco's standard brushed finish. The chair is crafted from 80% recycled aluminum and strengthened through Emeco's proprietary heat-treatment process. It is remarkably durable, yet weighs only about 15 lbs. Because of the mirror-polished finish, Emeco recommends the chair for indoor use or well-protected covered spaces, to preserve its gloss over time.
