Overview Female guppies bring gentle colour and lively movement to a planted aquarium. Colours and markings vary between individuals; images illustrate the assortment. Behaviour Sociable livebearers best kept in a group. Females previously kept with males may produce fry even after separation. Tank Size Provide at least 60 litres for a small group, with mature filtration, a heater, plants and open swimming space. Allow additional room for fry and tankmates. Compatibility Keep with peaceful fish. Avoid predators and fin-nippers. If mixing sexes, allow two or three females per male and plenty of shelter. Diet Feed small portions of quality omnivore flakes or granules, with suitably sized frozen or live foods for variety. Care Maintain stable water around 22–26°C and pH 7–8, with moderate to hard water. Test regularly, maintain zero ammonia and nitrite, and change a portion of the water each week.
