Les Quatre Terroirs N°22
Les 4 Terroirs is probably the best introduction to Georges Remy’s work. Not a simplified cuvée, but a snapshot of his vineyard. Bouzy, Ambonnay, Louvois and Tauxières: the four villages where the domaine was working when the cuvée was first conceived. N°22 is a blend of 91% Pinot Noir and 9% Chardonnay, with 90% from the 2022 harvest, complemented by reserve wines from 2018 to 2021. Every parcel of the domaine is represented across these different vintages. 2022 was an early, sunny vintage, but Georges waited for the grapes to reach their aromatic turning point before harvesting. The result retains remarkable freshness for the vintage, without sacrificing the substance and structure of Pinot Noir. The wines are vinified and aged on fine lees in 228-, 320- and 500-litre barrels. Malolactic fermentation is completed. The wine was bottled on 27 July 2023, without fining or filtration, then disgorged with no dosage. When we tasted it at the domaine, this balance was precisely what struck us: substance, but with an energy that holds it together and carries it through the finish. A particularly clear first expression of Georges Remy’s style before exploring his more site-specific wines.
