Grotta Sonora Mini Plate

The Grotta Sonora Mini Plate packs an unusually deep voice into a small, portable instrument. Its flat rectangular body has a folded edge that reduces tension in the stainless-steel plate, allowing Grotta Sonora to tune it much lower than its 12" x 16" size might suggest. The sound is open and airy, with a deep fundamental underneath a broad wash of shifting overtones — closer in character to a wind gong than you might expect from a plate this compact. At under 4 lbs, it's easy to carry between rooms, sessions, or workshops, while still giving you a distinctly different voice from a traditional round gong. Fundamental Notes The listed note and octave represent the plate's primary center tone. A plate produces many frequencies at once, and the apparent pitch can shift somewhat with playing volume and the overtones that are activated.
