Speed When You Need It The biggest advantage of the Classic X is simple: line recovery. A traditional single-action reel gives you one revolution of the spool for every turn of the handle. The Classic X's multiplier system gives you 2.5 turns of the spool for every turn of the handle. That becomes particularly useful when a fish changes direction and comes straight back at you. Instead of frantically stripping line by hand, you can recover line quickly with the reel and keep tension on the fish. It's also handy when you're working a large river and need to quickly pick up line between casts or when a fish makes a sudden change of direction.
