Early 20th Century Wooden Loom mounted on Perspex
I love using interesting antique objects as sculptural pieces and this gorgeous wooden loom, originating from the Baule people in the Ivory Coats in Africa, is a perfect example. Textured, earthy, this reed beater from a strip loom is constructed from a wooden frame and wood slithers. It would've woven long strips of cloth that were then put together to create a larger piece. The perspex base also holds a boat-shaped handloom shuttle in front of the loom and this is carved from dense hardwood into a hollowed vessel. It is mounted onto perspex to give it a sculptural feel. It has a wonderful patina and gorgeous to add to a collection of handcrafted tribal pieces. Dimensions 30cm tall x 22cm length and perspex base is 10cm deep Delivery £4.80 UK delivery.
