Thursday, February 18 | 6:00–8:00 PM Beginner Friendly | $35 per person Led by Melissa Turley Description Turn simple materials and leftover yarn into something beautiful and useful in this relaxed Folkcraft Social! Join Melissa Turley for an evening exploring the traditional art of coiled basketry. Using rope as the foundation and colorful yarn remnants to wrap and stitch each coil together, we'll create small, one-of-a-kind baskets and bowls full of texture and character. Coiled basketry is an age-old handcraft that transforms humble materials into sturdy, functional forms. In this social, we'll explore the process of building a basket by hand, wrapping rope with yarn and stitching each round into place as the shape slowly takes form. The beauty of this craft is in its simplicity and endless possibilities. With a variety of yarn remnants to choose from, each piece will develop its own unique combination of colors, textures, and patterns. Whether you make a little catchall bowl for your favorite treasures or a small decorative basket, you'll enjoy an evening of slow, satisfying handwork and good company. No previous basketry or sewing experience is necessary. Come ready to create, connect, and enjoy learning something new!
