Uchiyama Kohiki Katakuchi – Handmade Japanese Ceramic Pouring Bowl 350ml

A handcrafted Kohiki Katakuchi by Japanese ceramic artist Uchiyama Chizuko, made in Tokoname, Aichi, Japan. Finished in a soft ivory-white Kohiki style with warm iron-toned edges and a distinctive pouring spout, this 350ml ceramic vessel brings together traditional Japanese craftsmanship and everyday functionality. Use it for serving tea, preparing matcha, pouring tea between vessels, or simply enjoy it as a beautiful piece of Japanese pottery. Because each piece is handmade, subtle variations in glaze, texture, shape, and firing marks are part of its individual character. ⸻ 🍵Japanese Craftsmanship from Tokoname Tokoname in Aichi Prefecture is one of Japan’s historic pottery-producing regions, known for generations of ceramic craftsmanship. This katakuchi is made by Uchiyama Chizuko and reflects a restrained Japanese aesthetic: an organic form, visible throwing lines, warm earthy details, and an understated white surface. Rather than appearing perfectly uniform like factory-made tableware, the small variations across the ceramic surface give the piece warmth and individuality. ⸻ 🤍 Kohiki Style The vessel features a soft Kohiki-inspired white finish, contrasted by warm brown tones around the rim and exposed clay at the foot. The subtle speckling, glaze movement, and natural tonal variation create a quiet, rustic appearance that pairs beautifully with Japanese tea ware. Its neutral palette also makes it easy to combine with matcha bowls, yunomi, teapots, and other traditional or contemporary tea accessories. ⸻ 💧 Katakuchi — Designed for Pouring Katakuchi (片口) refers to a traditional Japanese vessel characterized by a pouring spout on one side. This simple feature makes the piece exceptionally versatile. It can be used as a: • Japanese tea pouring bowl • Matcha preparation and pouring vessel • Tea pitcher • Serving vessel • Water vessel for tea preparation • Small ceramic serving bowl The generous opening also provides easy access for mixing or preparing liquids before pouring. ⸻ ✨ Product Character Style: Kohiki / Japanese rustic ceramic Colour: Ivory white with warm brown accents Surface: Organic, lightly textured ceramic finish Form: Round vessel with single pouring spout Aesthetic: Minimal, natural, wabi-sabi inspired Craft: Handmade Japanese pottery Each piece may show subtle irregularities in its surface, glaze, colour, shape, and firing pattern. These are natural characteristics of handmade ceramics rather than defects. ⸻ 📏 Product Details Product: Uchiyama Kohiki Katakuchi Artisan: Uchiyama Chizuko Origin: Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, Japan Material: Clay / Ceramic Capacity: Approx. 350ml / 11.83 oz when filled to 80% Diameter: Approx. 12.5cm Height: Approx. 8.5cm Type: Japanese Katakuchi / Pouring Bowl ⸻ 🍃 For Matcha & Japanese Tea Although a katakuchi is different from a traditional chawan, its wide opening and pouring spout make it particularly useful in a modern matcha setup. Its 350ml working capacity provides considerably more room than a small individual teacup while remaining compact enough for a home tea setup. ⸻ 🎁 A Beautiful Gift for Tea & Ceramic Lovers The Uchiyama Kohiki Katakuchi is particularly suited for people who appreciate: • Japanese pottery • Matcha and Japanese tea • Handmade ceramics • Minimalist tableware • Wabi-sabi aesthetics • Traditional Japanese craftsmanship Beyond its practical use, it can also be appreciated as an artisan ceramic object in its own right. ⸻ Important Note About Handmade Ceramics Please expect individual variation.
