Les Charmes is the broadest and most immediately giving of Meursault's premier crus, sitting on the deeper soils of the lower slope where the vines have more to draw on. In a cellar that favours restraint and large format oak, that natural generosity is allowed to show without being amplified, which makes for a notably balanced reading of a famously plump site.Yellow peach, quince and lemon curd fill the nose, backed by hazelnut and a light buttered note. The palate is round and silky, opening out across the middle with real depth of orchard fruit, then drawing back in on a firm mineral finish that leaves the wine feeling fresher than its weight suggests.Pierre Girardin set up his own estate in Meursault in 2016 having grown up in the cellar of his father, Vincent Girardin, and he is the thirteenth generation of the family to work in Burgundy.
