Catalytic carbon filtration for chloramine-treated water High-capacity chloramine, chlorine, taste and odour reduction The Osmio 4.5 × 10 inch Chloramine Reduction Carbon Block is a specialist 0.5 micron cartridge made from high-performance coconut-shell catalytic carbon. It is designed for municipal water supplies where chloramine reduction requires more reactive media than a conventional carbon block. Highly reactive catalytic carbon Designed to reduce persistent disinfectant chemicals Chloramine is formed by combining chlorine with ammonia and can be more difficult to reduce than free chlorine. This cartridge uses 100% coconut-shell catalytic carbon with a highly reactive surface to improve chloramine reduction while also addressing chlorine, sediment and unwanted taste and odour. It generally requires catalytic or specialist carbon media with sufficient contact time rather than relying on a standard carbon cartridge. What is the chloramine capacity?The published chloramine reduction capacity is more than 4,000 US gallons at 1.5 GPM, equivalent to approximately 15,100 litres at 5.7 LPM. Why is the chlorine capacity much higher?Free chlorine is generally easier for activated carbon to reduce. The stated chlorine taste and odour capacity is more than 60,000 US gallons at 3 GPM, but this figure must not be used as the chloramine capacity. How often should the cartridge be replaced?No single calendar interval applies to every installation. Replace it when the relevant capacity is reached, when system maintenance specifies a change, or sooner if flow or water quality deteriorates. Does this filter reduce fluoride?This cartridge may have some incidental fluoride reduction, but Osmio does not recommend it as a standalone fluoride filter. Choose a cartridge specifically rated for fluoride reduction if that is the primary requirement. Will it fit every 4.5 × 10 inch housing?Do not assume compatibility from the nominal dimensions alone. Check the housing model, cartridge clearance, seals and required flow before ordering. Can it be used with microbiologically unsafe water?Not without adequate disinfection.
