Ripple Molding #202-82

Bands of fine ripple broken by quiet, plain stretches across a full 3/4" face: a lively skip pattern in the Dutch Golden Age tradition, knife-scraped in solid hardwood. Ripple molding #202-82 is 3/4" wide and nearly 1/4" high. Choose maple, cherry, or walnut below. Each stick is 5 feet long. The profile From the sight edge out: ovolo, quirk, bead, quirk, and torus. The ovolo rounds the sight edge, a quirked bead runs down the middle of the face, and the torus gives the outer edge a full, rolling finish. The ripple runs through the whole profile in bands, with plain stretches between them; within each band the crests are about 1/8" apart and about 1/32" deep. The pauses give the molding a measured, staccato rhythm that sets it apart from a steady ripple. It runs in an old master cadence: no two waves are quite alike, each varying slightly in length and depth, as the ripples do on period frames. Ways to use it As the sight-edge molding of a Dutch-style frame, mitered and applied to a base frame As a cap or liner, or paired with other ripple profiles to build up a wider frame On mirrors, panels, boxes, and casework that call for an antique look Details Width 3/4" (0.750") Height Nearly 1/4" (0.234") Stock Cut from 1/4" stock Pattern Skip pattern: bands of ripple with plain stretches between; crests about 1/8" apart, about 1/32" deep Cadence Old master cadence: each wave varies slightly in length and depth, as on period frames Length 5-foot sticks Woods Maple, cherry, or walnut. Unfinished, ready for paint, gilding, or your own finish Images are true-to-profile renderings in raw maple; cherry and walnut are cut to the same profile. Like the period originals, each stick shows small variations from the knife and hand finishing. That is part of its character.
