African-style Hand-Carved Wooden Drum with Hide Head

A substantial African-style hand-carved wooden drum featuring a natural animal-hide head secured with traditional rope tensioning and wooden tuning pegs. The carved body shows detailed relief motifs of village life, figures, palm trees and animals; the base is turned from the same wood and the overall piece reads as decorative folk art with potential as a playable percussion instrument (not tested). Dimensions Width: 42 cm Depth: 42 cm Height: 64 cm Condition Structurally sound and solid. The drumhead shows discolouration and signs of use; rope bindings are largely intact though there are areas of light fraying visible in places. The wooden surface has several small scratches and a noticeable scuff to the lower base. Musical performance has not been tested.
