We started with the Pink Bourbon, followed by the Caturra Natural and the Gesha Washed. While each coffee is very different, they all shared one quality we really loved: consistency. The amount of care and patience Luz puts into growing and processing her coffees is exceptional, especially within a traditionally male dominated industry. We’ve tasted many coffees from her partner, Jairo Arcila, and her son, Felipe Arcila, but trying Luz’s coffees for the first time really shifted our perception. You’ll often find some similar characteristics across coffees from the Arcila farms, but it felt like Luz had her own idea of where she wanted to take things. What excited us most was that the differences she introduced are exactly what we look for: more traditional processing, cleaner cup quality and a more elegant expression. That’s why we wanted to showcase Luz’s work throughout September. Each of her coffees received the same level of care and attention during roasting, with the goal of bringing out the clarity and character we found so special in the cup.
