UNMARKED Engineer Boots - Black Holanda Bison Leather

The UNMARKED engineers are a very comfortable out of the box, quite Western styled take on engineer boots and it works very well. The leather is a tea-core vegetable-tanned bison leather, specially developed by UNMARKED in collaboration with Cisne Tannery in León. The hides come from the U.S., and the tanning is carried out locally, combining traditional techniques with a tailored approach to achieve the desired look and performance. The leather will develop beautiful character over time, with the natural core subtly emerging through wear. It features a rich pull-up effect and a natural shine, meaning the colour lightens slightly when flexed and gains depth and complexity with use, enhancing its visual appeal over time. The last and comfort: As with the leather this is where UNMARKED boots shine, this last is a lovely shape. It is slightly higher in the heel than some engineers which gives a very nice arch support feeling under foot. They also hug the heel quite nicely. They are shapely in the waist, go out to a fairly wide ball of foot and end with a slightly Western almond toe. They are also very comfortable underfoot due to their cork and leather midsole and a cushioned half insole. They just feel very good on from the start and will only get better as the instep collapses a touch. The construction and finish is where it can be a bit mixed. On the very positive they are solid boots, there is no doubt about that. Goodyear and nicely welted, pretty good uniform stitching on the whole and trimmed in nicely and mostly well balanced. However, the finish is not flawless so those expecting perfection, these are not the boots for you. There is the odd blemish or scar on the leather (this is to be expected with bison in general though), some of the mid and outer sole leather could have been coloured a bit more uniformly here and there (which will change quickly with wear anyway) and the finish just doesn't have some of the finesse that the higher priced makers do but the price does reflect this. On the whole though, if you are after a very solid, lifetime and comfortable pair of boots that look and feel great then UNMARKED are great for this.
