"Behind the Sun" - Julien Gobled

“Derrière le soleil” is a collection of works by Julien Gobled, an artist and graphic designer based in Le Havre, France. Many may have encountered his work recently through the artwork for Oneohtrix Point Never’s “Tranquilizer.” This book compiles works created from images collected on the internet that spark fragments of memory. These collected images are filtered, erased, and repeatedly edited, transforming them into painterly material. These are images that feel vaguely familiar, yet whose true nature remains just out of reach. In this body of work, where déjà vu mixes with a sense of unease, the power inherent in the images themselves, their ambiguity and fragility, and sensations that transcend words and logic rise to the surface. The back cover features a text contribution by Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), allowing one to reflect on the creative approaches shared by both artists.
