The 12AY7 offers lower gain compared to the 12AX7 and is highly appreciated for the greater progressivity, good dynamics, and control it can provide to preamplification stages. It represents a particularly interesting choice for vintage-style guitar amplifiers, driver stages, buffers, and hi-fi equipment designed for this tube type. The tubes have been carefully selected on an Amplitrex AT-1000 and subjected to 48 hours of burn-in, which they passed without instability. Tube 1 shows average values of Gm 1550 µmhos and Ia 2.7 mA, while Tube 2 averages Gm 1400 µmhos and Ia 2.25 mA. Emission was found to be strong, steady, and stable, with no gas, shorts, or fluctuations. The pair has been matched for electrical characteristics and operating behavior. The first tube also offers excellent internal alignment, while the second maintains consistent values between sections. It is a selection particularly indicated for V2, V3, V4, driver stages, and less sensitive positions, where it can fully express the qualities of vintage GE production. Microphonics are low.
