Peter Kortekaas (b. 1946) Reclining Nude Unglazed ceramic

An intimate ceramic sculpture by Dutch artist Peter Kortekaas, depicting a reclining female nude. Working in unglazed ceramic, Kortekaas reduces the human figure to soft, sculptural volumes. The untreated surface gives the work a tactile, almost archaeological quality, while the compact composition allows the figure to be viewed from multiple angles. The reclining nude has a long tradition within modern European sculpture. Here, Kortekaas translates the classical subject into a small and highly tactile object, balancing figurative detail with abstraction. Its modest scale makes the sculpture particularly suited to a bookshelf, console or side table, either as a standalone artwork or within a collection of modern ceramics and sculpture.
