Oak & Cognac Leather ‘Spanish Chair’ Model 2226 by Børge Mogensen, 1960s

An early 1960s production of Børge Mogensen’s iconic ‘Spanish Chair’, Model 2226, manufactured by Fredericia Stolefabrik in Denmark. The chair combines a substantial solid oak frame with thick cognac saddle leather, secured with leather straps and brass buckles. Wide, flat armrests, exposed construction and the suspended leather seat give the chair its characteristic strong and functional form. This particular chair is an especially attractive early example, preserved in entirely original condition. Decades of use have given the cognac leather a rich, expressive patina with natural variation, marks and wear throughout. Together with the warm surface of the oak, this gives the chair character that cannot be reproduced in a newer example.
