ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP The Merchant & Mills Sunday is a traditional unisex dressing gown with a shawl collar, patch pockets, an inner tie and a belt. It suits light to medium weight fabrics: laundered linen, cotton double gauze, block print cotton, voile, lawn, linen waffle, or Tencel/linen. This three-session Zoom sewing workshop focuses on construction: a self-faced shawl collar, patch pockets, set-in sleeves and clean finishes throughout. WHAT YOU’LL MAKE A full-length, unisex shawl-collar robe in your choice of light to medium weight fabric. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN Reading and working from a garment pattern Staystitching and clipping into corners: the prep that keeps necklines and collars from stretching Patch pockets with reinforced corners, for shirts, jackets and aprons A shawl collar sewn in one with its facing: a first step into collars and lapels Setting in a sleeve with ease stitching, the method behind jackets and coats Deep hems and edgestitching for crisp edges on any garment Clean seam finishes, with or without a serger WHAT YOU’LL GET 6 hours of live online sewing instruction across three 2-hour sessions Multi-camera demos - top-down, machine-level, and table view, so you see exactly what’s happening at every step Video replay access to every session, with detailed written notes for each one A dedicated online workshop space for sharing progress, asking questions, and connecting with fellow students Lifetime access to all Sunday Robe replays, notes, and resources A NOTE ON FIT We'll cover fit and sizing in the first session, including how to make the men's version from the same pattern. Due to the nature of Zoom workshops, complex fitting is beyond what we can cover thoroughly, but you'll leave the first session knowing your size and what simple adjustments to make before you cut.
