This is a classic cool-climate Gewürztraminer, showing vibrant aromas and flavours of ginger, five spice, lychee, peach and apricot. The nose is lifted and aromatic, with notes of clove, ginger and candied orange peel. On the palate, the wine is plush and textural, with excellent structure, depth and impressive length. Although dry, the wine has plenty of ripe fruit and impressive flavour development. Overall, it is concentrated, balanced and beautifully harmonious, with the freshness and aromatic intensity that make Marlborough Gewürztraminer so distinctive. Terroir Project is a new project of single-vineyard wines showcasing unique terroirs from around New Zealand and Australia. The wines are incredible translations of vineyard site and soil, and for the technically minded among us, the back labels offer all of the following information on each wine too. Varietal: Gewürztraminer Vintage: 2025 Subregion: Waihopai Valley Region: Marlborough Country: New Zealand Terroir: Ancient alluvial riverbed with loess and clay (soil profile pictured on front label) Farming: SWNZ certified sustainable Vine age: 14 years Vinification: Whole bunch pressed, cool fermentation in stainless steel tank, aged on fine yeast less for 15 months Fining: None (vegan friendly) Sulphites: Minimal added Alcohol: 13% alc/vol Tasting Notes: "An intensely aromatic Gewürztraminer showing classic varietal characters of lychee, Turkish delight, rose petal and ginger, alongside hints of clove and candied citrus. The palate is dry, rich and textural, with ripe stone fruit, spice and excellent concentration. Bright acidity provides freshness and tension, carrying the wine through to a long, persistent finish." "Highly aromatic and immediately appealing, with notes of lychee, Turkish delight, jasmine, ginger and ripe nectarine. Dry, concentrated and beautifully textured, with layers of stone fruit and exotic spice developing across the palate. The fruit is generous without becoming heavy, thanks to lively acidity and a long, savoury finish. A refined, cool-climate expression with impressive varietal definition and plenty of personality."
