The Arc'teryx Rush Jacket Black / Mongoose is a protective touring shell for ski and snowboard days that involve both climbing and descending. Its role is to keep wind and precipitation outside while you choose the insulation underneath. A Regular fit with room for layers lets you adapt that system to the weather, instead of relying on one fixed amount of warmth for the entire day. The shell uses three-layer GORE-TEX PRO ePE with an 80D recycled nylon face fabric. This waterproof, windproof and breathable construction is intended for demanding mountain use. The laminate combines a nylon outer and backing with an ePE and PU membrane. An FC0 DWR surface finish helps moisture bead on the outside. The finish and the membrane perform different jobs: a face fabric that starts absorbing water is a reason to check cleaning and maintenance, rather than automatically assuming the membrane has failed. Underarm ventilation zips give you a direct way to release heat during an uphill section or before a transition. Open them early enough to manage the build-up of warmth instead of waiting until your base layer is soaked. The helmet-compatible StormHood adjusts around your head protection, while the snowsport-specific articulated cut allows the shoulders and arms to move. Try it over your helmet and usual midlayer so you can check visibility and reach together. The pocket arrangement includes two chest pockets and two internal dump pockets. They separate accessible essentials from larger items carried inside the jacket; distribute their contents so nothing presses uncomfortably beneath a pack strap. WaterTight zippers are part of the closure system. An integrated RECCO reflector supports compatible search equipment, but it does not replace avalanche education, a transceiver or the other equipment appropriate to your route. Treat the Rush as a weather layer within a complete clothing system. Add warmth for cold descents and stops, then manage that warmth during effort. When trying the jacket on, lift your arms, reach forward and check the hem over your trousers. Follow the garment label for washing and drying: wash separately at a medium setting, close fastenings, double rinse and remove promptly.
