Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Añejo 18 Year, a very rare, collector-grade tequila.
A very rare, collector-grade extra añejo tequila, aged 18 years. It was distilled in September 1995 and bottled at 43.5% ABV. Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Añejo 18 Year is made at Tequileña (NOM 1146) in Tequila, Jalisco. Enrique Fonseca is the master distiller. It is widely regarded as the second-oldest tequila ever released, after the brand's own 21 Year. The blend: 75% copper two-column still tequila and 25% double copper pot-distilled tequila. The aging: Each part first spent six years in ex-Canadian rye whiskey casks. The tequila was then blended and re-barreled into ex-California red wine barrels (European oak) and Canadian white oak. The barrels moved to the cooler El Chapingo for another twelve years. It has no additives. The soft golden color comes from the casks alone. Tasting Notes Nose: pear, jasmine, dry wood spice and a delicate earthiness. Reviewers also note caramelized pear, plum, fig and pecan pie. Palate and finish: cherry, chocolate and oak, ending in a distinctive, very dry finish.
