Opus one is a wine that baffled me at the start of my wine journey – in that I rarely saw such a high value rarity of a wine that’s so widely drunk globally. Many collectors I’ve spoke to swear by Opus and its quality by actually imbibing the wine – and this constant, relentless VALIDATION of its legend again and again is something many fine wines don’t see with their high percentage of collection over consumption. This has created a true legend that will never die. The First time I tried Opus One, at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, I was frankly blown away – my first wines being Top Bordeaux and Burgundy, I’d growth rather haughty and thought I knew what the world of wine had to offer – I felt like my world expanded, and in a very real sense, felt horses blinkers removed from my eyes, and my field of view was massive. This has led to me sampling wines from many corners of the earth, and is a real victory – my wine journey almost ended in France due to my myopia, but Opus and a few other wines showed me right, and deserve their richly earned reputation. This is an incredible wine to have and age for donkeys years, or an incredible wine to invest in, as it’s almost ceaseless demand does the work for you.
