Antique 19th Century Black Forest Hand-Carved Glove or Jewelry Box
I loved this beautiful antique Black Forest box the moment I saw its wonderfully carved roses. Dating to the 19th century, the elongated box is hand carved with a lush floral bouquet across the lid, each flower and leaf given lovely dimension and detail. It was made as a glove or jewelry box, and the original silk-lined interior makes it just as useful today for keeping jewelry, ribbons, or other small treasures. A wonderful example of the woodworker’s skill, the beautiful floral bouquet on the lid is what makes this box so special. It is not perfect, I believe there may be a tiny leaf missing from the carving, along with a few small losses at the edges. There is also a small loss to the wood just to the left of the keyhole on the front. Please see the photos for the details of its condition. I love these little antique boxes for the way they bring something unexpected and personal to your dressing table, desk, or bookshelf. A marvel of the woodworker's hands, boxes like this are getting more rare to find, we can't keep them in inventory when they are as pretty as this. No key. Measures 12-7/8" x 5-1/2" x 5-1/2"h.
