Most "silica" products are potassium silicate, which your plant has to convert into mono-silicic acid before it can use any of it. This is already in that final form, so it is available on contact instead of days or weeks later. If you switch to this, you can generally drop the silicate product rather than run both. No. The gelling and buildup that fouls valves comes from high-pH silicates dropping out of solution.
