Natural Dyes (Chamomile, بابونج)

Chamomile consists of the dried flower heads of the chamomile plant, a flowering herb that has been used for centuries across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Our chamomile is carefully sourced locally in the UAE, supporting regional suppliers while offering a sustainable botanical dye for natural dyeing. In natural dyeing, chamomile is valued for producing soft golden yellows that can range from pale buttery tones to rich honey shades. When combined with different mordants and modifiers, it can also produce muted olive and green hues. Its gentle colour and ease of use make chamomile one of the most popular botanical dyes for both beginners and experienced natural dyers. Dyeing Instructions: Use approximately 100g of chamomile flowers per 100g of fibre for medium shades. Soak the flowers in water for several hours or overnight. Simmer the flowers for 45 to 60 minutes, then strain the dye bath to remove the plant material. Add pre-mordanted, wet fibres to the dye bath. Dye at 80 to 90°C for 45 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally for even colour. Allow the fibres to cool in the dye bath for deeper shades before rinsing and drying. Notes: The final colour may vary depending on the fibre type, mordant used, water quality, and dyeing conditions. We recommend testing on a small sample before dyeing your full project.
