Huillmann, successor to Ponthus & Therrode, Paris, housed in its original fitted mahogany case and retaining its original maker's label, serial number, and calibration record. The sextant is engraved: "Huillmann Ponthus suc'r à Paris No. 3910" and the interior label reads: A. Huillmann Ponthus & Therrode, Successeurs Constructeurs d'Instruments de Précision Paris This is a genuine late-19th-century navigational instrument used for celestial navigation aboard merchant and naval vessels. Sextants of this quality were essential tools for determining latitude and position at sea prior to electronic navigation. The instrument remains housed in its original fitted mahogany case and appears substantially complete with its telescope components, mirrors, filters, index arm, silvered arc, and original storage fittings.
