Pierre Jeanneret File Rack, Panjab University

Institutional file rack attributed to Pierre Jeanneret, produced for the Chandigarh furniture programme and commissioned for Panjab University. Constructed in teak, the rack is arranged with 20 open compartments in four vertical bays. The upper sections have raised dividers, while the side panels terminate in distinctive compass-form supports associated with Jeanneret’s Chandigarh furniture. One side is marked “P.U. CH-73,” understood as a Panjab University, Chandigarh inventory designation, with “73” referring to an institutional asset number. The rack would originally have been used in an administrative office, records room or university department for the storage of files and documents.
