Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy raises the air pressure around the body slightly above normal atmospheric pressure while you breathe oxygen-enriched air. Sea level is 1.0 ATA; a mild chamber runs at 1.3–1.5 ATA — roughly the pressure you'd feel a few metres underwater. Soft-shell inflatable chambers run up to about 1.5 ATA, need no building work, and pack away when not in use. Keep the chamber clear of heaters and direct sunlight, and follow the depressurisation cycle in full before exiting. Regulatory note. Mild hyperbaric systems operating at or below 2.0 ATA using an oxygen concentrator (rather than stored pressurised gas) fall outside the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000.
