There are currently over 2200 manmade satellites orbiting Earth right now, making the night sky look a little like air traffic over Atlanta. But for a short month in 1957, there was one lone satellite blazing the trail of progress around our home. These semiprecious or Czech glass drops reflect a simpler time, orbiting alone like Sputnik, on their hammered ring of sterling silver. New satellites being shot into orbit all the time.
