como daydream - percolation with texture flexibility
born in a place of warm memories. this unit has feel and texture quite unlike any other circuit. The twilight P2P percolator has been moved to Midnight Coast Electro, as the como daydream. Built with each component directly connected to each other, with no circuit board affecting the raw sound of the circuit. This method of construction known as point to point (P2P for short) is a unique style of building in itself. Over time, this circuit really started speaking to me. I now use this pedal for background textures in songs, generally. To add a sometimes velvet, sometimes broken layer of fuzz that adds character and depth to any song. what style of effect is this? vintage fuzz. full of unique character and tending to sound different unit to unit. fuzz is more textured, and non-linear than other types of drive. out of all the drive categories, fuzz has the most obvious differences from circuit to circuit. a very wide range of textures and feels here. generally good for emphasizing lead melodies in a song, and providing a layer/background of grain. it is like adding a blanket of unique timbre. how would I describe the feel and texture? the percolator feels very splatty when the pre is cranked. not in the bad way where it compresses and just mangles the inherent notes, in a way where it does a very mild and soft bloom- the compression that ramps with pick attack, and releases into its full bodied note upon letting the note ring out. at lower gains, the pedal provides a surprisingly nice overdrive like sound. Warm and smooth, not super bright and sharp like standard op amp overdrives. more natural feeling and sounding. with my mods, there some feels and textures that can only be hand by hand of the twilight. features/controls This circuit has 3 additional features not had in the original. toggle switch, frequency amplification mod. This allows for 3 different ranges of frequencies to be let into the circuit and amplified. middle- choked, bright, clean. Like a top boost essentially. left- fuller, more standard frequency response. right- fat, thick, overloads the circuit with thick gain, and can drive the transistors into self oscillation earlier in the bias range. bottom left knob- bias. ranges from self oscillating at minimum, to broken fuzz when up a bit, to classic fuzz sounds at clockwise. I have fine tuned this over time for maximum usability range. bottom right knob- clipping. blend between classic silicon or germanium clipping, for texture changes within the saturation itself. stock knobs top left- pre, or "harm" control. controls the amount of signal fed into the circuit, pretty much acts as a gain control. top right- balance, or master vol. controls how much signal is let out of the circuit, acting mainly as a volume control. what kind of player would like this stompbox? of course, this stompbox was made famous by albini, so naturally, fans of shellac. anyone who wants a fuzz for any type of music would enjoy this pedal. It does not feel like a one trick pony or fuzz that puts itself in a limited box of usability. With all the additional mods I add, there is quite a lot this pedal can do. Every midnight coast electro creation is made one by one, with extreme dedication and passion for the craft. only the best parts/components are used in these builds. these pieces are for someone who wants a truly unique piece of gear visually, sonically, and functionally.
