Beginner Quilting Class

Quilting Placemat Class Discover the basics of quilting while creating a beautiful placemat! This beginner-friendly class is a great introduction to quilting. You'll complete one placemat in class and receive enough fabric (with the Materials Included option) and detailed instructions to make a second matching placemat at home. Class Details Skill Level Confident Beginner Duration 4 Hours Date Sunday, September 6 Time 10:00 AM Leave class with a finished placemat, the skills to continue quilting with confidence, and everything you need to complete your second placemat at home. Skill Requirements This class is suitable for confident beginners. Participants should be able to: Thread and set up a sewing machine independently Sew a consistent 1/4" & 1/2" seam allowance Sew straight seams Meet Your Instructor Lisa St. Marie With over 30 years of quilting experience, Lisa has won awards at Quilt Canada, Canada's national quilt show, and has been featured in The Canadian Quilter magazine. Her quilts have been juried into major exhibitions throughout the United States and sold across North America. Lisa has taught both traditional quilting and collage quilting for many years and is passionate about sharing her love of quilting with others. What's Included The following tools and supplies will be available for use during class: Sewing machine Quilt batting Rotary cutting tools Quilting rulers Thread Materials Options Materials Included We'll provide all of the 100% cotton quilting fabric needed for your project. Fabric colours and prints will be preselected for you. Bring Your Own Materials If you prefer to choose your own fabrics, please bring the following 100% cotton quilting fabrics. Make sure to press your materials flat before the class. Fabric Requirements (Makes 2 Placemats) You'll need 6 fabrics total: 5 coordinating fabrics ranging from light to dark for the quilt blocks (one of these will also be used as the backing) 1 coordinating fabric for the border Purchase: Backing/block fabric – 0.6 m Four additional block fabrics – 0.1 m each Border fabric – 0.2 m During class, you'll complete one placemat and receive printed instructions to help you create the second matching placemat at home.
