Few animals embody the power and mystery of the Amazon rainforest as completely as the jaguar. These two original paintings portray the great cat in contrasting poses, each surrounded by dense rainforest vegetation and painted on traditional llanchama bark cloth. Jaguar 1 shows the animal standing alert in the forest, mouth open and gaze fixed intensely toward the viewer. Its richly patterned coat and muscular body dominate the composition, framed by a black painted border. The work is signed by a Huitoto artist whose individual identity is still being confirmed. Jaguar 2, signed by Huitoto artist Percy Diaz, presents a reclining jaguar with its large spotted body, curling tail, massive paws, and direct gaze filling the scene. A natural light-colored llanchama border remains visible around the painting. Both works were created by Huitoto Indigenous artists associated with Puca Urquillo, a community on the Ampiyacu River near Pebas in the northern Peruvian Amazon, probably between 2012 and 2014. The artist of Jaguar 1 may also have been Percy Diaz, but Amazon Ecology is seeking confirmation before making that attribution. The jaguar holds deep importance in many Amazonian Indigenous traditions and is widely associated with strength, forest knowledge, and the extraordinary power of the non-human world. These paintings are presented as individual artistic interpretations rather than illustrations of one specific myth. Either painting could become a dramatic focal point in a living room, study, office, restaurant, eco-lodge, nature center, or collection devoted to Indigenous, Latin American, or wildlife art. Llanchama is a flexible natural bark cloth that may be professionally framed or mounted according to the buyer's preferred display style. For shipment, the painting will be carefully protected and rolled around a rigid support rather than folded. Because llanchama is a natural bark cloth, variations in surface texture, thickness, coloration, and edge shape are integral characteristics of the material rather than defects.
