The fabric, unsorted and set aside, was destined never to see the light of day again. When a long-time collaborator closed their business, we took possession of the remaining fabric. "Mottainai", a Japanese word expressing regret for wasting something. We took the fabric to Shiratakedo, a fan workshop in Kyoto founded in 1718. For over 300 years, this workshop has passed down its techniques from craftsman to craftsman. It takes approximately 80 steps to complete a single fan. Through their craftsmanship, the almost-dead fabric was given new life. Tokyo before dawn. Shimmering windowpanes. A city that never sleeps. The phosphorescent ink absorbs light during the day and emits a soft glow at night. Because we can no longer source the phosphorescent ink from the factory, this will be the last special piece using glow in the dark. We chose a luxurious black color for the bamboo frame. Textile design : Hannah Waldron Behind the story → Material: 100% cotton / Ribs: black bamboo / Size: 7 sun (approx. 21cm)
