Botanical name: Capsicum baccatum Lifecycle: Annual Heritage: South America, pre 1900's 'Aji Pineapple' is a rare heirloom Chilli producing small, slender yellow fruits with tropical sweetness and a lively medium heat. The chilli peppers ripen from green to a vibrant bright yellow colour. It is prized for its distinctive pineapple like sweet fruity undertones. Highly productive and rewarding. It is fantastic for fresh salsas, hot sauces, and fruit-based marinades. The fruits are at their hottest when bright yellow. SOWING: Spring – Early Summer Transplant Chilli pepper seeds are best sown spring through early summer. Sow seeds in trays of seed raising mix and germinate at temperatures of approx. 20°c – 30°c 20°c - 30°c 10 - 21 days Transplant with care once seedlings have several true leaves and are 5+cm tall, to a sunny and well-drained position approx. 40 - 60cm apart. 40cm - 60cm 80 - 110 days Tender TIPS: Plants will produce best results with regular watering. Mulching well will help it to conserve water and encourage it to crop heavily. It is most productive in warm and dry conditions, but can tolerate most frost-free climates. Please note that it is tender to frosts. Picking encourages further fruit set. Well-grown plants are very generous and will produce over a long period in summer. It is typically grown as a warm weather annual in NZ, however it can be overwintered indoors in warmer areas. The plants may benefit from staking for support as they grow.
