This intermediate class is intended for students who are already comfortable with the fundamentals of pinching, coiling, and slab building and are ready to expand their practice beyond these foundational techniques. Through a series of guided projects, students will strengthen their craftsmanship while learning strategies for constructing larger, more complex forms with confidence. Students will explore advanced construction methods, efficient assembly techniques, and thoughtful surface development to create functional and sculptural ceramic work. Along the way, you’ll refine your design process, improve problem-solving skills, and gain a deeper understanding of how to successfully execute more ambitious ideas. This class is ideal for anyone with prior handbuilding experience who is looking to push their creativity, improve technical skills, and build with greater confidence. All students will complete the session by glazing their finished pieces for durable, food-safe results where applicable. Note that the studio provides clay for the class; students are expected to bring their own throwing tools. Basic tool kits and commercial clay are also available at the studio for students who wish to purchase these things there. Final work will be available for pickup 2-3 weeks after class wraps up.
