Seiko Prospex Speedtimer HBD002J Mechanical Chronograph Leather 1972 Heritage Wristwatch
The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer HBD002J is the leather strap variant of the HBD001J — the same 1972 Caliber 6138-inspired mechanical chronograph, the same Caliber 8R48 movement, and the same streamlined case remanufactured with modern finishing precision. The difference is the band: where the HBD001J wears a fine-pitch stainless steel bracelet, the HBD002J is paired with genuine cowhide leather — a material that brings the 123g case weight to bear more directly on the wrist and shifts the watch's character toward the formal and the touring rather than the sporting. The leather makes it dressier, quieter, and more appropriate for occasions where a bracelet reads as too casual. The sky blue sub-dial accents and differentiated plate finishing remain unchanged — the chronograph legibility that makes the dial work is identical to the HBD001J. The 1972 case proportions, the tachymeter, the 34-jewel movement, the dual-curve sapphire with inner anti-reflective coating — all the same. The choice between HBD001J and HBD002J is purely a matter of context and wrist feel. Seiko Watch Salon exclusive. Releasing September 2026. *Pre-Order! Estimated release and shipment from September 2026.* Key Features: Genuine Cowhide Leather Strap — Touring Character Over Sporting: The leather strap reduces the HBD002J's wearing weight to 123g (vs 183g on the bracelet HBD001J) and shifts its aesthetic register from sporting to touring — the distinction between a race car and a GT. The leather wears closer to the wrist, breathes more naturally, and reads more formally in mixed dress contexts. Differentiated Sub-Dial Plate Finishing — Same Chronograph Legibility: Identical to the HBD001J: the 6 o'clock (30-minute) and 9 o'clock (12-hour) counters carry different plate finishes from the 3 o'clock small seconds, making each sub-dial visually distinct. Sky blue accent hands provide the legibility anchor across all three. 1972 Caliber 6138 Design Source — Modern Finishing Precision: The streamlined case inherited from the 1972 Seiko chronograph — remanufactured with contemporary machining tolerances that achieve surface clarity the original tooling could not. The same proportional DNA, executed more precisely than was possible at its origin. Caliber 8R48 — 34 Jewels, 45-Hour Power Reserve: Identical movement to the HBD001J: 34 jewels, approximately 45 hours of power reserve, automatic with hand-winding and hacking seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters, date, tachymeter. Dual-curve sapphire crystal with inner AR coating. Dia-Shield Stainless Steel case, 42.0mm diameter. Seiko Watch Salon Exclusive — September 2026: Available only through Seiko Watch Salons. Not available through Core Shops or general Seiko retail. Made in Japan.
