FC UTRECHT - HOME SHIRT 2012/2013 FC Utrecht are a professional Dutch club founded in 1970, born from the merger of three local sides: DOS, Elinkwijk and Velox. One of those predecessors, DOS, were crowned national champions back in 1958. Based in Utrecht, the fourth-largest city in the Netherlands, the club play their home matches at Stadion Galgenwaard. The city is affectionately known as Domstad after the towering Dom Tower that dominates its skyline, and the Red and Whites have long been the region's footballing heartbeat. The 2012/2013 season, during which this classic home shirt was worn, was one of the finest in the club's history. Under manager Jan Wouters, Utrecht finished fifth in the Eredivisie with 63 points, a tally that equalled the club record first set back in 1981. It was a campaign built on consistency and a fortress-like home form at Galgenwaard. Fifth place earned Utrecht a place in the European qualification play-offs, and this is what the season is best remembered for. They saw off Heerenveen, winning the first leg 1-0 away at the Abe Lenstra Stadion, before overcoming Twente in the final on 26 May 2013 to secure a coveted place in the Europa League. Leading the line was Zambian striker Jacob Mulenga, the club's top scorer that season with 14 goals. His goals were central to a European push that gave the Utrecht faithful a season to savour.
