Ongwe
Ongwe is the Otjiherero word for leopard, but the word carries echoes beyond the animal itself. In Herero praise traditions, the leopard has been associated with courage and warrior identity; leopard skin formed part of the dress of exceptionally brave warriors. The animal became more than a predator—it became a metaphor for human qualities such as strength, courage and fierce character.
