Intermediate Fashion Construction Workshop

PREREQUISITE: Students must have completed the Introduction to Fashion Construction workshop or have basic knowledge of clothing construction before enrolling in this program. Intermediate Garment Construction is a ten (10) day workshop designed for those who want to advance their sewing skills. Participants will learn additional sewing techniques, procedures, and methods as the teacher demonstrates firsthand the process of fabricating the patterns of pants and a dress shirt using the Graded Master Pattern, a modern tool that makes fashion construction fun and easy. All lessons will be demonstrated in front of the class, recorded, and uploaded for student reference. An online module will also be available to guide the students through the different sewing exercises. PROGRAM OUTCOME: By the end of the program, students will improve their technical sewing ability and gain the confidence to create well-constructed, professional-quality garments. __________ SCHEDULE Learning Modality: Face-to-Face Class Days & Time: Tuesday and Thursday | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Course Duration: March 11, 2027 – April 15, 2027 __________ Faculty: Mr. Richard Papa COURSE OUTLINE Session 1: Introduction to Pattern Making (GMP) and Fabric Cutting In this session, participants will be introduced to the GMP method of pattern making. Fabric cutting will be practiced, focusing on seam allowance, seam lines, and fusing techniques. Session 2: Shirt Assembly – Shoulders, Collar, Placket, and Buttonhole Details This session will cover the initial steps in garment assembly. Participants will work on edging, shoulder joins, plackets, loopholes, and collar attachment. Session 3: Shirt Assembly - Truvinized Collar and Sleeves In this session, participants will assemble the truvinized collar and sleeves. Guidance will be provided on achieving proper shaping and finishing. Session 4: Shirt Assembly – Side Seams, Cuffs, and Hemming This session will focus on outseams, cuffs, and hems. Participants will learn how to assemble and refine these details with accuracy. Session 5: Shirt Finishing & Pants Introduction In this session, participants will complete the top by making buttonholes, attaching buttons, and applying final pressing for a professional look. Session 6: Pants Pattern Making – Style and Length Variations This session will cover pants pattern drafting using the GMP method. Participants will explore style variations such as length, straight cut, and bootleg. Session 7: Fabric Cutting: Seam Allowance, Seam Lines and Fusing In this session, participants will practice fabric cutting for pants. Seam allowance, seam lines, and fusing will be reinforced for accuracy and fit. Session 8: Pants Assembly – Zipper, Darts, Pockets, and Seams This session will cover the first stage of pants assembly. Participants will work on edging and zippering with fly, darts, pockets, inseams, and outseams. Session 9: Pants Assembly – Crotch, Waistband, and Belt Loops In this session, participants will assemble the crotch, belt loops, and waistband. Techniques for reinforcement and fit will be emphasized. Session 10: Pants Finishing – Hemming, Hook & Bar, Final Pressing This session will focus on the final steps of finishing the pants.
