October 3 to 8, 2027 | Hosted by IFSBali.com In This Body A Somatic IFS Retreat on Food, Body Image, and Embodiment For many therapists, conversations around food, body image, and embodiment touch some of the most tender places we encounter - both in our clients and, at times, within ourselves. Beneath struggles with eating, weight, exercise, and self-worth often lives a system of protective parts working tirelessly to create safety, belonging, control, or relief from emotional pain. Through a Somatic IFS lens, these behaviors are understood not as pathology or dysfunction, but as intelligent adaptations shaped by trauma, attachment wounds, shame, and cultural burdens. What appears on the surface as something to fix is often an attempt to protect something far more vulnerable underneath. This retreat is an invitation to come home to the body - not as something to change, but as a place to listen. Held in the peaceful surroundings of Bali, this six-day experiential retreat offers space to gently turn your attention inward while deepening your understanding of the relationship between food, body image, embodiment, and your internal system. Together with Somatic IFS therapist, consultant, and teacher Marcella Cox, you'll explore how the body itself can become a powerful pathway into relationship with your parts, offering access to healing, Self energy, and deeper therapeutic presence. Meet Marcella Cox Founder of Kindful Body, Somatic IFS Therapist, Assistant Trainer in Somatic IFS under Susan McConnell Marcella Cox, LMFT, CEDS-C, is a therapist, consultant, and author working at the intersection of embodiment, trauma healing, and eating disorder recovery. She is the founder of Kindful Body and is known for supporting both individuals seeking healing from trauma and therapists seeking a more embodied approach to parts work in their clinical practice. Her work is grounded in a simple yet profound belief: healing doesn't come from fixing or forcing change. It unfolds through reconnecting with what is already wise, compassionate, and resilient within. Whether in the therapy room or consulting with clinicians, Marcella brings a deeply relational, trauma-informed, and embodied approach that honors each person's lived experience, nervous system, and cultural context. In This Body: An Experiential Journey Throughout the retreat, Marcella gently weaves together Internal Family Systems and somatic practices, inviting you to experience how the body can become a doorway into deeper relationship with your parts. Across six days, you'll engage in experiential IFS processes, guided meditations, embodied movement, reflective writing, partner exercises, group process, and quiet moments of integration. Together, we'll explore how attachment wounds, trauma, shame, family legacies, and cultural messages can shape our relationship with food, movement, weight, and the body - and how these protective patterns can be approached with greater curiosity, compassion, and Self leadership. While the retreat offers rich clinical learning, its primary intention is experiential. Rather than focusing only on understanding clients, you'll be invited to explore your own relationship with food, body image, embodiment, and the protective parts that may live there. As your own system softens and becomes more deeply understood, many therapists find that their clinical work naturally becomes more spacious, embodied, and attuned. Surrounded by Bali's lush landscape, warm ocean air, and a community of fellow practitioners, this retreat offers a rare opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and deepen the way you accompany others. This retreat is not about changing the body. It is about changing the relationship with it. By cultivating greater trust in both the wisdom of the body and the internal system, you'll discover new ways of accompanying both yourself and the people you serve. You'll return home more deeply embodied, more connected to your own internal system, and with renewed confidence in supporting others through the wisdom of both body and Self. Who This Retreat Is For: This retreat is designed for IFS-trained therapists, practitioners, counselors, coaches, and helping professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of food, body image, and embodiment through a Somatic IFS lens. As the retreat includes deeply experiential Internal Family Systems processes, participants are expected to have completed IFS Level 1 training or hold equivalent experience. If you are deeply IFS-informed through alternative pathways, you're welcome to reach out and share your background for consideration. To support depth, safety, and a meaningful group process, participation is limited to a maximum of 28 participants. What's included in Your Retreat Package?
