Orthovisc is an injectable viscosupplement based on high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA), developed by Anika Therapeutics. It is an ultra-pure, non-animal viscosupplement composed of highly purified sodium hyaluronate (NaHA), both biocompatible and resorbable, containing a high concentration of HA at 15 mg/ml. Indications Orthovisc is indicated as a viscoelastic supplement or replacement for synovial fluid in human joints, particularly suited for treating symptoms of synovial joint dysfunctions such as osteoarthritis. Orthovisc compensates for this loss by restoring the viscoelastic properties of synovial fluid, thereby reducing friction and improving joint function.
