Lidocaine 33% Topical Spray is a very high-strength compounded local anesthetic intended to provide temporary, localized surface numbness before selected clinician-directed procedures. Lidocaine reduces pain, burning, stinging, touch, and temperature sensation by reversibly blocking sodium channels in peripheral sensory nerves. Expected onset: Not specifically established for this 33% formulation. Lower-strength metered lidocaine sprays used on mucous membranes generally begin working within approximately 1–5 minutes; onset on intact skin may be slower, incomplete, and highly dependent on the spray vehicle. Expected duration: Not specifically established. Lower-strength mucosal sprays generally provide approximately 10–15 minutes of surface anesthesia, but this cannot be presented as the guaranteed duration of the compounded 33% product. In naturopathic, functional, integrative, dermatologic, and aesthetic practices, the spray may be prescribed as a procedural comfort aid before small-area superficial injections, venipuncture, microneedling, laser or light treatments, electrolysis, tattoo-related procedures, or other minor skin interventions. It should ordinarily be applied only to intact skin before the procedure and completely removed before the skin is punctured, abraded, lasered, or otherwise disrupted.
