Oct 18: Kolam - Indian Art Workshop

Originating in India about 5000 years ago, this is a symmetrical art drawn using dots and lines. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: In this workshop, we will start with the history of Kolam and why it is practiced. We will then learn how to draw them on paper and then draw on a piece of canvas, a tote bag, or a coaster. We will do this step by step to create a harmonious design. You will not only create a piece of artwork, but also learn a skill you can use to start your creative practice on your own time. The workshop fee will cover the materials required - paints, brushes, markers, and a piece of tote bag, canvas, or coaster to paint on during the event. The workshop is completely beginner-friendly and will be covered step by step to create a design of a minimum of 7 cm. WHAT’S INCLUDED: ✔️ All materials necessary ✔️ Drinks WHY JOIN? If you would like to experience Indian culture from the inside, learning about one of its arts, the history, and ways to create kolam, then this hands-on workshop will be a perfect fit. After this workshop, you will be able to understand how to create your own symmetrical patterns. ABOUT YOUR HOST: I believe that Kolam is for someone who is looking to create positive flow and thinking into everyday practice. I have been drawing Kolams for the last 6 years. I am self-taught in this art - through keen observation, dedicated practice time, learnings from various sources have come to this point where I would like to share my learnings with others and create curiosity about this art style.
