Hosta 'Gigantosaurus' Plantain Lily

Hosta ‘Gigantasaurus’ lives up to its prehistoric name, one of the first to emerge with enormous, blue-green leaves edged in broad, wavy yellow margins that gradually lighten as the season progresses. Even larger than ‘Empress Wu’ and ‘Wu-La-La!’, this colossal Plantain Lily quickly becomes a focal point in the shade garden. Its massive foliage creates a bold, architectural presence, and pale lavender blooms appear on tall scapes in early summer rising above the sea of leaves. Hosta ‘Gigantasaurus’ prefers partial to full shade and moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Plantain Lilys will grow in ordinary garden soil and tolerate short periods of drought, but they are most impressive when provided with consistent moisture. They tolerate clay soil and can be grown under black walnut trees. Plantain Lily are classic perennial shade garden plants that also perform well in large containers and woodland-style plantings.
