Glossy Pink Ceramic Superlambanana, Liverpool by Blue Gnu

I bought this one for the colour. Blue Gnu Ltd, an officially recognised producer of ceramic Superlambananas, made the figures in a number of colours before production stopped. Most follow the bright yellow of the original sculpture, while this less common version has a uniform glossy pink glaze. The colour gives the familiar shape a completely different character and turns it into a strong decorative object in its own right. The Blue Gnu Ltd stamp is on the base. The figure measures approximately 19 cm long and 15 cm high. It is in good condition. Collector’s Note Japanese artist Taro Chiezo designed the Superlambanana for the 1998 Art TransPennine exhibition. The unlikely combination of a lamb and a banana serves two purposes: it humorously warns of the dangers of genetic engineering while also referring to Liverpool’s maritime history and the regular import and export of bananas and wool through the city’s docks.
